Great time to be a marketer

March 7, 2025

It's a great time to be a marketer who understands tech and knows how to use tech. 🙃

The tech learning curve for marketers isn't optional anymore.

Here are some skills/capabilities that separate technically fluent marketers from those being left behind:

1️⃣ Basic HTML/CSS/JS: The ability to code using Cursor without developer dependence

2️⃣ Marketing automation: Building workflows with AI tools like n8n, Langflow that scale human decision-making

3️⃣ AI prompt engineering: Crafting precise instructions that generate the output you want

4️⃣ API fundamentals: Understanding how systems connect and communicate

5️⃣ Experimenting with AI: Creating structured experiments with AI tools like Lovable, V0 by Vercel, Replit that produce scalable outcomes

6️⃣ Building AI-optimized workflows: Redesigning marketing processes with tools like Relay.app to maximize human-AI collaboration

and many more such skills/capabilities.

The real advantage isn't mastering everything but developing a technical mindset that approaches marketing challenges systematically rather than intuitively.

Most marketing folks overvalue specialized skill/capability expertise while underinvesting in foundational technical thinking that goes beyond specific platforms.

The question isn't whether you should become technical, but which technical capabilities will create asymmetric advantage in your specific marketing context.
